The eldest of seven children, Fr. David grew up in Saint John, N.B. Hoping to be a high school teacher, he did undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Education at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, but he changed directions somewhat when he entered the Society of Jesus in 1969. A few years later, as a Jesuit, he did get to be a high school Chemistry teacher for three years at Gonzaga High School in St. John’s, Nfld. Following ordination to Priesthood in 1977, he finished a Doctorate in Education at the University of Toronto and was assigned to Winnipeg as the Director of St. Paul’s High School (1982-88). Then he moved into university teaching as an Associate Professor at St. Paul’s College, University of Manitoba (faculties of Education and Arts). He loves travelling and for many summers conducted a popular 3-week Field Study Program in India for Education graduate students. Since moving to Toronto in 2014, he has been working as the Assistant to the Jesuit Provincial Superior for Apostolic Organization and Planning. Connected in the early years with the former Jesuit Companions program, he is happy now to be a member of the JVC board.
