- A simple lifestyle means much more than living within the stipend that Jesuits Volunteers receive each month. It is a way of life, a series of conscious decisions to lead an alternative lifestyle.
- Living simply is discovering creative ways to spend time alone and in community, creative ways of socializing that do not involve spending lots of money. It means being open to new ways of doing things that do not always seem the most convenient method of accomplishing a task. In other words, living simply is not always simple.
- Combined with working for and with the oppressed, a simple lifestyle is a living expression of a commitment to right relations with our neighbour and with all of creation.
- We are striving to live simply so that others may simply live. By uncluttering our lives, “we strive to remove those obstacles that inhibit our closeness to God and others.”
